In a profession where size is often the means of measuring how a competitor would perform inside the squared circle, a man with such size as Anthony Pagano are often (literally) looked down upon and disregarded. Professional wrestling is often regarded as a land of giants but somewhat our little hero survived seven years of journey in it and is still going strong despite all the criticisms, the loses, the injuries and the relationships he had burnt along the way. But he wouldn’t have it any other way. This is his life and you DO NOT just give up on life.
And now that he is about to embark on a new journey; A new chapter and in his, so far, successful professional wrestling career, Tony is about to face a new set of obstacles that will surely challenge him emotionally, physically and psychologically. It’s not a matter of IF our hero will be able to conquer them, it’s a matter of HOW and WHEN he will be able to triumph over them. So join me in following Anthony Pagano’s journey through uncharted territory as he tries to his expand his name outside the Midwest professional wrestling scene.
********** Anthony’s Anecdotes September 13, 2013
[It’s the first day of the Massachusetts State Fair and the newest Celtic Trouble Promotions talent and Midwest independent wrestler Anthony Pagano is in the middle of all the action this morning. Armed with his handy GoPro HD Camera, he is walking around documenting everything and anything he comes across with as he acclimatized to the grounds that he would be wrestling in for the first time next week.
As the camera clicks on, the mug of Tony is staring right to us. A huge grin stretched on his face, he looked like a kid who just got laid for the first time. Behind him is an overwhelming sea of Fair-goers enjoying this nice and cool New England mid-day. As Tony walks around checking out the sights and sounds, he casually talks to the camera as he begin filming the latest installment of his highly-popular Youtube video blog…]
“What’s up guys? It’s me Tony and I am coming to you live from good ol’ Beantown - Boston, Massachusetts! Today is the opening day of the Massachusetts State Fair and I thought I’d check it out. I’ve heard a lot of great things from this Fair and I can’t wait to experience everything that it has to offer.
But while I’m walking around and checking stuff out, I’d like to talk about what’s going down here on this very ground on the 18th. In case you didn’t know and you are wondering WHY I’m in Boston, well let me enlighten you. You all know I’ve been trying to expand my career and get into other circuit outside of the Midwest ones. I’ve been sending my tapes out to various promotions here in the East Coast, the West Coast and the South hoping to get myself some bookings in the area but I haven’t been really lucky to land anything.
It’s always the same reason. As you would have guessed, it is my size. Apparently, promoters are still looking for wrestlers with Greek Gods-like physique that look like they were chiseled from stone. You would think that that wouldn’t be the case anymore after all the success that guys like me have had in the major promotions but it’s just not the case. Promoters are still stuck in this mentality that the bigger they are, the better wrestlers they will be.“
[Tony shrugs as he passes by a couple with a little girl chomping on her cotton candy. He smiles and nods at them as he continue speaking.]
“Either way, I didn’t let that get me down. I’ve worked my butt off and did what I could to constantly improve my skills and learned more about my craft. I sent tapes again and again despite them getting annoyed at me. I waited patiently for my break as I continue to pay my dues. And I’m proud to say that all those hard-work and patiently waiting had paid off. Now here I am in Boston and I am just a few days away from the moment that I’ve been waiting for. I am just a few days away from the beginning of the new chapter in my career. I am just a few days away from the start of a new journey in my life. And you can bet your money that I am pretty excited about it.
But just like any journeys, whether be it in life or in your profession, there are always going to be roadblocks in your way. They are there to test your intestinal fortitude, your heart and your determination to make it to the end of the line. In other words, they are there to make the trip worthwhile. And on the 18th, I will be facing the first of my roadblocks in this new journey. On September 18th, I will go head to head with a man named Erin MacAuly.
Now Mr. MacAuly I don’t know you. I have never heard of you before. I have never faced you in the ring. I don’t know where you from, what you have accomplished and how you are in the ring. In short, I don’t know anything about. No disrespect sir, but it’s the truth. But I’m pretty sure you are a good wrestler, sir. I mean you’re here. You’re a part of Celtic Trouble Promotions. I don’t think the Legendary Ace Andrews would sign anyone that is not worth giving a shot, am I right? With that said, I am more than honored to face you on the 18th.
But I know the fans and critics alike already have a preconceived notion of who is going to win this match. I mean just by looking at you and me, they will surely say that just by size alone, there’s no match. I can’t blame them for that. Look at you, sir. You’re almost a foot taller than I am and you are almost a hundred pounds heavier. You’ll probably toss me around the ring like a rag doll. And I’m probably in for the hardest beating of my life. But I’ve been in this situation before, sir. I’ve been in the ring with wrestlers with your size. And yes I’ve been tossed around like a rag doll more times that I could count but I’m still here, sir. I’ve managed to withstand all those punishment and I’m still here and I will be here for a long time.
See Erin we both have a HUGE opportunity in front of us on the 18th. I know you will do whatever you can to beat me. I know you’ll use your size and strength advantage over me but you’ll be surprise how resilient I am. I mean I am not called “Lionheart” for nothing. That’s not just some cute moniker I’ve bestowed myself. In fact, that was given to me BY THE FANS. Because despite my size, I have the BIGGEST heart there is in professional wrestling. On the September 18th, that heart will be on display in our match. No matter how much you toss me around. No matter how much you beat down, I will still keep getting back up. Because this is a once and a lifetime opportunity that I CANNOT afford to pass by. I will get my hand raise on the 18th and I will show the world what the Midwest had been seeing this past seven years…
“Lionheart” Anthony Pagano… the BIGGEST little man in professional wrestling.”
[He then winks at the camera and turns it to show some of the booths in the fair. He continues walking passing them one by one as the scene then slowly fades to black.]
